It was a thoughtful deed. Details can be overwhelming, so Shirley Nagel made a journal to help her sister-in-law organize prescriptions, appointments, and the information needed as she underwent cancer treatment. When Shirley saw her sister-in-law's reaction, she realized this was a gift many cancer patients would appreciate.

Since that first journal, Shirley's enlisted her extended family, online friends, her stamp and garden clubs, and even camping friends in her journal making efforts. Everyone who's crossed her path has found her enthusiasm contagious. Friends have told friends, and in October 2010, I was privileged to write an article about Shirley's Journals of Love for Cancer Patients in the "Crafting for a Cause" section of Crafts 'n things.

The response was heartwarming, and the emails began to fly. Shirley answered queries about distributing journals, and we both fielded questions about journal construction. In the months since the article was first published, the inquiries continued. I am grateful that Crafts 'n things allowed me to write a follow-up article in the October 2011 issue.

It's simple to become a part of this effort. There are no forms to fill out or fees to pay. Shirley will gratefully distribute journals on your behalf or share her experiences to assist you in setting up a local program. We would be happy to answer questions about journal construction. Beginners will find this an easy project, and experienced crafters can enjoy the opportunity to push the creative limits. Will you be the one to join the groups and individuals who are "Crafting for a Cause?"

Thank you Shirley. What began as a simple gift of love has resulted in an outpouring of blessings to many.
